Crazy

Oh how I love Patsy Cline.  Her voice just resonates!  I have loved this song for as long as I can remember.  I have this really vivid memory of being at my Grandma's house many, many years ago and a docu about Patsy Cline was on the TV.  Or maybe it was a movie about her life. Either way.  I watched it and fell even more in love with her.  It's just such a shame that a lot of the greats meet a tragic end and they get cut short in their prime.
Crazy isn't the only song of hers I love, I love them all!  Something about her voice makes me take a deep breath and relax.  There has never been someone like Patsy, she was truly one of a kind.  Now, I feel like going to get a cup of tea and continuing my day with Patsy's music in my background!

Call it a Day

The literal use of this phrase hails from 1838 when the phrase originally was "call it half a day" to mean leaving work early. (source) The modern use of the phrase is to indicate ending something due to false sense of accomplishment.

Butter someone up

There are two probable origins for this idiom and I think both are equally plausible. The first one is that when you spread butter on bread you are buttering it up like one would do when trying to flatter someone. The second is in ancient India there was a practice of throwing balls of butter at statues to ask for favor, i.e. buttering them up. ( source ) When we use the phrase today we generally mean that extreme flattery is used to gain information or favor. It's not always necessarily a compliment.
