Quality Time

In comparison to a lot of idioms this one is rather new. It appeared in the 1970's and the first use of the phrase found is from the Maryland newspaper The Capital, January 1973, in a piece headed 'How To Be Liberated': The major goal of each of these role changes is to give a woman time to herself, Ms. Burton explained."A woman's right and responsibility is to be self fulfilling," she said. She gives "quality time" rather than "quantity time" to each task, whether it be writing, cleaning the house or tending the children. The phrase today has moved away from being possibly task related and is generally meant in a relationship capacity - i.e. giving undivided attention to a person. And just so we're clear, this is what it is not...

For Tuesday, April 23: Busy doesn't necessarily equal productive

Be sure that being busy equals being productive.  Time wisely used is immeasurable.   Ian S. Ardern Just because *you* are busy doesn't mean you are being productive.  There is a big difference between busy and productivity.  Too many people equate the two and that simply isn't true.  I know many people who are busy but so unproductive.  And usually occupying yourself with "busy work" usually means you are doing things half-assed.  (Yeah, not apologizing for that.)  When we use busy work as a cover for looking productive we don't do things with excellence, we don't put all that we can into it, we don't actually accomplish anything that is useful.  Be smart about your work.  Is your "busy work" done with excellence and does it end up furthering productivity or is it done half-assed (still not apologizing) and as a cover so you don't have to really apply yourself?  Be wise with your use of time.  If you aren't going to be produ...

Enough not more

I don't really want more time; I just want enough time. Time to breathe deep and time to see real and time to laugh long, time to give You glory and rest deep and sing joy and just enough time in a day not to feel hounded, pressed, driven, or wild to get it all done-yesterday.   Ann Voskamp Yes.  Voskamp says it perfectly.  It's not necessarily more time that we may want (although we may think so initially), but it's enough time.  Enough time in each 24 hours of a day to breathe deeply, to not feel pressed for more time but just enough time.  Enough time in each 24 hours to feel like I'm not rushed and I've missed deadlines that never existed.  Enough time in each 24 hours to "stop and smell the roses", whatever form that takes for each of us.  Enough time in each 24 hours to be grateful, to look at life and see the beauty in the midst of the busy.  And for me, and maybe you, a believer in God - enough time in each 24 hours to stop and see his ...

When? Right now!

The time is always right to do what is right.   Martin Luther King Jr There is never a bad time to do the right thing.   Never .  When it comes to doing something right the answer to the question, "When" is "right now!"  As long as it is within your means - physical, emotional, financial (if applicable), etc then the answer is "right now!"  Don't hesitate.  Don't take time to think it over.  If you do you won't do it.  Self-doubt and second thoughts will creep in and become the obstacle to doing the right thing at that very moment.  When it comes to doing the right thing there shouldn't be hesitation or doubt.  The right thing is very clear, it never needs a second thought.  When is the right time to do the right thing?  Right now!
