Amnesty International Day Working for Human Rights In 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights brought human rights into the realm of international law as a result of the violations during World War II. Human rights are basic rights and freedoms that all people are entitled to regardless of nationality, sex, national or ethnic origin, race, religion, language, or other status. Educate yourself and others about our basic human rights. When I was a kid and heard "hamburgers" this is exactly what I thought of! May A few different ideas for this month and its name. One is it was named after Maia, the goddess of growth of plants. Another thought is the name probably comes from Maiesta, the Roman goddess of honor and reverence.
