Goody two shoes

Goody Two-Shoes is a poor orphan named Margery Meanwell who only has one shoe. When she's given two shoes she is so happy she tells everyone she meets. Her story is found in the 1765 nursery tale The History of Little Goody Two-Shoes. Read here about how goody got added to her name.  These days the phrase means that the person being called a "goody two shoes" is smug and above virtuous.

St. Nicholas Day Who is St. Nicholas? Known for living out Isaiah 1:17   the best way to celebrate this day is to donate your time, resources, and/or finances to local community centers that assist the "least of these." And in the spirit of stockings why not donate adult and children socks to shelters in the area as well? Mitten Tree Day Read  The Mitten Tree  and The Mitten This is the perfect day to hold a mitten (and gloves, hats, scarves) drive to donate to your local rescue mission and/or shelters. Give the gift of warmth this year! Put on Your Own Shoes Day Since the reason for this day is a mystery I'm going to make a suggestion. :)   Many people in third world, underdeveloped countries don't have a pair of shoes to call their own. So why not donate to an organization today that provides shoes for the "least of these?" The Feast of Firstfruits & Easter Go for Broke Day If it scares you this is the day to go for it no matter what. One Day Without Shoes Day Today is to raise global awareness for children’s health and education.  Why shoes? Because shoes help protect from bacteria in the dirt, rusty nails, dirty needles and shoes enable feet to withstand the long distances most children in developing countries need to walk to get to school. Join TOMS One for One There is plenty of criticism out there for TOMS and its short term solutions. Critics don't even buy the "at least they are doing something" statement.  However, you have to start somewhere. And every bit of awareness helps something go from short term to long term.  We all have a part to play. Read a Road Map Day One of the many reasons I would stink at The Amazing Race is because I never did learn how to read a road map well.  I remember doing worksheets and class lessons on maps and I was able to skate by ...

Day 129: Good Shoes

I'm grateful for good shoes today.  Shoes that support my aging arches *grin* and pad my feet from the hard ground.  I'm grateful for shoes that help me walk distances and give me support when I'm standing still for long periods of time.  I don't take the fact that I have access to good shoes lightly.  I am all too aware of people around the world who have no shoes at all and no hope of having shoes, much less good ones. I'm grateful for good shoes and I look for ways to help those who need them as well get them.
