DIY mixes from scratch are more tasty than the stuff you can buy in the stores that have ingredients in them that you can't pronounce. Now I'm not making these mixes, I'm lazy, but I have thought about them. When I do buy a mix of something (cornbread, etc) I spend a lot of time reading the labels and purchase the one with the least amount of unintelligible ingredients - and there are the times I can even find mixes that have all okay ingredients! Got spices? One of the easiest, and best, ways to make food tasty is spices. I didn't understand this when I started cooking on my own. Salt and pepper were okay - maybe even Italian seasoning but anything past that was just too crazy for this chick to consider! Years ago - in what was, I believe, a totally different life - I sold Tupperware. And Tupperware had a few recipe books, one of the recipes I made and we loved it. But it called for this weird spice named "cumin" and I was like, "Uh, no." And we liked it fine without it. I had never tried this spice and I felt no need to go beyond salt and pepper. Then one night I made the recipe for company coming over and on a whim I decided to try the cumin. MIND. BLOWN. I couldn't believe I hadn't used it before. What was I missing by not using spices? So from that moment on when a recipe called for a spice I tried it. And a whole new world - of flavor - opened up to my fam and I. So #TastyTu...
