#TastyTuesday

DIY mixes from scratch are more tasty than the stuff you can buy in the stores that have ingredients in them that you can't pronounce. Now I'm not making these mixes, I'm lazy, but I have thought about them. When I do buy a mix of something (cornbread, etc) I spend a lot of time reading the labels and purchase the one with the least amount of unintelligible ingredients - and there are the times I can even find mixes that have all okay ingredients! But back to DIY.

Not only does DIY save money but it gives a fresher - tastier - flavor to your foods. I've often thought about whipping up baking mixes to have on hand so that when I'm struck with the mood to bake half the "work" is already done, maybe today - in honor of #TastyTuesday - I'll do just that!

Here's some mix ideas which basically means I just did the Googling for you. *wink*

All-Purpose Baking Mix (this can be used for any recipe calling for a biscuit mix - such as Bisquick)
Pancake Mix (apparently the above all-purpose mix doesn't do pancakes so great, try this instead)
Beef Chili Soup Mix
Homemade Cream of Something Soup I have made this mix before, I made it cream of mushroom and it was delicious! It takes a little extra work but the end result is so worth it, in my opinion.
Brownie Mix Holla! Who doesn't like brownies?!
Cornbread Mix
Yellow Cake Mix
Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix Because cookies.

The End of Affirmation 365

I've been thinking about it for over a month. Usually, when I'm in it I'm engaged. But this time? I started it indifferent and I've felt indifferent all along. I should have never started. Hindsight is 20/20 they say and they aren't wrong. So when I opened my eyes this morning it was clear. It's time. Time to quit this 365. This is the first 365 that I haven't posted several of the days, the first 365 that I wasn't super excited about, the first 365 that I've quit. I've changed my social media presence and interactions the past year so this is also the first 365 that hardly anyone has been interested in. Is it the topic or my decision to not be as accessible on social media? Or is it some other reason altogether? Well, regardless...I'm throwing in the towel on this one. I can't say if I'll ever do another 365 again. Time will tell and I will know if and when it's time.

Call it a Day

The literal use of this phrase hails from 1838 when the phrase originally was "call it half a day" to mean leaving work early. (source) The modern use of the phrase is to indicate ending something due to false sense of accomplishment.
