National Chocolate Ice Cream Day The earliest frozen chocolate recipes were published in Naples, Italy in 1692 in Antonio Latini's The Modern Steward. Chocolate was one of the first ice cream flavors, created before vanilla, as common drinks such as hot chocolate, coffee, and tea were the first food items to be turned into frozen desserts. Hot chocolate had become a popular drink in seventeenth-century Europe, alongside coffee and tea, and all three beverages were used to make frozen and unfrozen desserts. Latini produced two recipes for ices based on the drink, both of which contained only chocolate and sugar. In 1775, Italian doctor Filippo Baldini wrote a treatise entitled De sorbetti, in which he recommended chocolate ice cream as a remedy for various medical conditions, including gout and scurvy. Chocolate ice cream became popular in the United States in the late nineteenth century Very Chocolate Ice Cream Recipe Since frozen hot chocolate was the first known chocolate i...

Inconvenience Yourself Day  ( additional info ) Many of our actions seem to say we think we are more significant than the next person; that our lives and schedules are more important than some else’s. We often inconvenience other people to make our own lives easier and don’t give a thought to the impact of our actions on others. Inconvenience Yourself Day is an opportunity to focus on inconveniencing ourselves instead of inconveniencing others. It is also a day to recognize and acknowledge those who inconvenience themselves for others. What can you do today to put others first? Clam Chowder Day What is clam chowder? Chocolate Covered Cherry Day A History of Cherry Cordials/Chocolate Covered Cherries Amish Chocolate Covered Cherries The Most Famous Brand of Chocolate Covered Cherries: Cella's Chocolate Covered Cherries I have never liked chocolate covered cherries.  I like cherries, chocolate periodically, but the two of them in the mixture that makes up chocolate covered cherries?  Nope.  And then I figured out why I don't really like them.  1) The liquid is gross, in my opinion.  It's so sugary and the texture of it is not appealing to me. But more than that, 2) maraschino cherries.  Most chocolate covered cherries are made with this kind of cherry. I just can't. Have you heard about this kind of cherry?  Let me enlighten you a bit... Day 81: Sweet & Salty

I was five and at a birthday party at Wendy's.  This was the Wendy's that had tables that looked like old-time advertisements which I was always fascinated by and felt sad when they went away.  But I digress. Back to the point.  I was five and I'm pretty sure I had not seen anyone do this yet but I thought to myself, "Huh.  I wonder what a french fry dipped in the chocolate frosty would taste like." So I dipped.  And fell in love for the rest of my life.  To this day I consider the combo to be a comfort food. While I am not a big fan of chocolate overall I am also a fan of the peanut butter and chocolate combo.  That also is like comfort food for me.  The sweet and salty combo I consider to be God's gift to us.  I'm grateful for it.  I know, that seems so...shallow.  But somedays you just need some comfort and God is good to provide it in a myriad of ways. Today it was the sweet and salty combo of a frosty and fries.
