Make A Move

Oh yeah, it's Friday!  And for today's song I gave us something we could dance to.  :)  'Course this white girl don't dance but y'all bust your moves if you want!
So today's song is courtesy of my bestie, Jodi.  Now here's the funny thing.  I heard a different song by the same group on the radio the other day and planned to feature them because I loved their sound, etc. And then she suggests this song which is PERFECT for a Friday in terms of music! :)  So at some point you'll hear the song I had heard but I loved this song for today.
Royal Tailor is a new group, I think.  Although they have A LOT of songs out there already.  A group of 4 guys who apparently (according to the comments below today's featured video) hail from a United Pentecostal background.  I'm not sure what UPC is doing these days but they certainly wouldn't be approving of this groups video and the dancers in it.  Oh it's all clean and there is NOTHING wrong about it but according to UPC standards and twisting of the scriptures it doesn't match up.  Maybe these 4 were able to escape the bondage of UPC.  :)  But that's a different kind of blog.  Let's get back to the music.  :)  Royal Tailor's lead singer has an A-MAZING voice, the band is great, and their songs - both lyrically and musically - are so good.  People are saying they are a mix of Maroon 5, Bruno Mars, and the even a smidgen of the great MJ.  I'm happy to have found this group.
Today's song addresses the issue of my heart - when we see someone in need we gotta make a move.  Put feet to our faith.
Happy Friday!

Butter someone up

There are two probable origins for this idiom and I think both are equally plausible. The first one is that when you spread butter on bread you are buttering it up like one would do when trying to flatter someone. The second is in ancient India there was a practice of throwing balls of butter at statues to ask for favor, i.e. buttering them up. ( source ) When we use the phrase today we generally mean that extreme flattery is used to gain information or favor. It's not always necessarily a compliment.

More bang for your buck

This phrase was used a lot in 1953 but an earlier citation puts it at 1940 in a Metals and Plastics Publications advertisement. Read about it here . The phrase means you get more for your money.

Call it a Day

The literal use of this phrase hails from 1838 when the phrase originally was "call it half a day" to mean leaving work early. (source) The modern use of the phrase is to indicate ending something due to false sense of accomplishment.
