Hold Me Jesus

I have always loved the music of Rich Mullins.  He lived his life according to the Word of God and for that I deeply respect him.  He is most "famous" for the song 'Our God is an Awesome God' but his music was so much more than that song.  One of my favorites of his, and one that really has ministered to me and continues to, is today's song, "Hold Me Jesus".
"You have been my King of Glory, won't you be my Prince of Peace?"  Love that line!  It's true.  When we find ourselves in dire straights we need the Peace that passes all human understanding and comprehension.  So if you find yourself in dire straights, in circumstances that have you shaking like a leaf, in tribulation then reach out to the One whose embrace can give you peace.

Hold Me Jesus

Rich Mullins was a different Christian.  He was different because he held fast to the Word of God and didn't allow the "American Dream" to dissuade him from Jesus.  Before his death he was a champion for the "least of these" with organizations like Compassion International.  Sometimes he showed up to his concerts unshaven and barefoot.  To keep others from putting him on a pedestal, he often confessed his sins and failures in public.  In 1995 he moved to a Navajo reservation in Arizona to teach music to children who lived there.  He never knew how successfully his albums sold because the profits from his concerts and albums went directly to his church.  They paid him a small salary and gave the rest of the money away.  In September 1997 he and a friend were driving to a benefit concert in Wichita, KS when their Jeep flipped.  Both men were thrown from the car; Rich Mullins was killed when a passing semi-truck swerved to miss the Jeep and accidentally hit him.  He was 41 years old.  (Thanks to Francis Chan and his book, "Crazy Love" for providing this info on Rich Mullins)

Rich Mullins was such an enigma that after his death people sought to figure out why he was different, what made him different, and how they could emulate the difference (had Rich been alive during this search I feel certain he might have said something to the effect of, 'Read the Bible.')  Compassion International, in partnership with someone else, put together a video that honored the work Mullins did for the USA division of Compassion as well as the Body at large.  If you want to be inspired and challenged I've included the YouTube links for you below.  (all of them are about 7-8 minutes in length)

The End of Affirmation 365

I've been thinking about it for over a month. Usually, when I'm in it I'm engaged. But this time? I started it indifferent and I've felt indifferent all along. I should have never started. Hindsight is 20/20 they say and they aren't wrong. So when I opened my eyes this morning it was clear. It's time. Time to quit this 365. This is the first 365 that I haven't posted several of the days, the first 365 that I wasn't super excited about, the first 365 that I've quit. I've changed my social media presence and interactions the past year so this is also the first 365 that hardly anyone has been interested in. Is it the topic or my decision to not be as accessible on social media? Or is it some other reason altogether? Well, regardless...I'm throwing in the towel on this one. I can't say if I'll ever do another 365 again. Time will tell and I will know if and when it's time.
