Let's talk sunshine! It's good for us. And a lot of us don't get enough of it - or of the Vitamin D it provides us. I for sure don't. If you know me well you know my favorite place to be is indoors. In the winter it's harder to get that Vitamin D we need but still possible. Did you know that Vitamin D does the following (and then some):
I'm fortunate to live in a state where we have sunshine more than we don't - I would state the number of days we claim but apparently it's in dispute so I'll just leave it alone. Suffice it to say, we have the sun shining A LOT here in Colorful Colorado. Even in the winter we have days of sunshine so getting the Vitamin D benefits shouldn't be as difficult as it might be in other places.
Commonly called the sunshine vitamin because it is produced in our bodies by exposure to sunshine, you can also get it through foods and supplements. In the winter most people need to take a supplement in order to keep their Vitamin D levels in the healthy range. For people like me, indoor people, a supplement year round is probably necessary. I take a high quality liquid Vitamin D that my husband researched and found for me. It is possible to "overdose" on Vitamin D and have toxic levels in your body but I know I'm not in danger of that problem. HA!
So for #WellnessWednesday look at your Vitamin D (a simple blood test can give you the info you need) and make the adjustments you might need to up your levels. In the meantime, you can get more Vitamin D through food. And look out your window - is the sun shining? Then get on out there and literally soak some up!
