One is NOT like the other!

HUMILITY:  Not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less.  (John 3:30

All that thinking less of yourself is is annoying and a characteristic called false humility.  Ugh.  I'm sure you've been around someone who says they think less of themselves and acts that way too.  It's so annoying, do you agree?  Eventually people don't want to be around the person and quit showing any kind of interest in their lives.  And in a weird twist, thinking less of yourself is actually very prideful!  Which is the opposite of humility.  So if you've somehow fallen into the trap of thinking that it is humble to think less of yourself then I'm here to break it to you - it's not.  You are actually being very prideful and self-centered.  Knock it off.  :)
True humility, on the other hand, is when you think of yourself less.  The order of words changes the meaning significantly doesn't it?  It means that when faced with a decision between your want and someones need you deny the want for the need.  It means you are more interested in other people's stories than your own.  It means you see beyond yourself for the greater thing.  And while doing this you aren't thinking that you are scum (because in actuality you don't think you are scum) you are simply choosing to show others that they also have value and worth and you will choose to prefer them (when appropriate).  Philippians 2:1-11 talks about this.
Don't confuse false humility with true humility.  They are at opposite ends of the spectrum and one will win you favor with people, the other will drive people away.

The End of Affirmation 365

I've been thinking about it for over a month. Usually, when I'm in it I'm engaged. But this time? I started it indifferent and I've felt indifferent all along. I should have never started. Hindsight is 20/20 they say and they aren't wrong. So when I opened my eyes this morning it was clear. It's time. Time to quit this 365. This is the first 365 that I haven't posted several of the days, the first 365 that I wasn't super excited about, the first 365 that I've quit. I've changed my social media presence and interactions the past year so this is also the first 365 that hardly anyone has been interested in. Is it the topic or my decision to not be as accessible on social media? Or is it some other reason altogether? Well, regardless...I'm throwing in the towel on this one. I can't say if I'll ever do another 365 again. Time will tell and I will know if and when it's time.
