Bean Day (additional information)
The Bean
Bean Varieties
Considering the breadth and depth of this topic I'm going to leave y'all to find your own recipes or what have you for bean day. My favorite bean is the green one. Green beans are delish to me.
I saw a suggestion to read "Jack and the Beanstalk", I like it!  Haven't read that story in years.
Or you could watch it!  Here's the version from 2010.  Or there is this one, modernized.

Life tip: Always have a cuddle buddy.
My hub is a cuddle buddy of course, but I do have a girl cuddle buddy!

This is my kindred, Hillary, and she lived with us for a while and we became cuddle buddies.  We would cuddle on the couch while watching Hannah Montana (don't judge) and on our laptops. Hillary's love language is touch so cuddling is something she does a lot of!  Watch out, she will even cuddle with strangers on airplanes! :)

Apple Tree Day
How to Grow Apple Trees
I think this is a weird one to celebrate in January.  I'm not going to be planting any trees, today or any other day, but I will gladly eat an apple, drink some cider, and be very grateful for the apple. I do love them!

More bang for your buck

This phrase was used a lot in 1953 but an earlier citation puts it at 1940 in a Metals and Plastics Publications advertisement. Read about it here . The phrase means you get more for your money.

Call it a Day

The literal use of this phrase hails from 1838 when the phrase originally was "call it half a day" to mean leaving work early. (source) The modern use of the phrase is to indicate ending something due to false sense of accomplishment.

Butter someone up

There are two probable origins for this idiom and I think both are equally plausible. The first one is that when you spread butter on bread you are buttering it up like one would do when trying to flatter someone. The second is in ancient India there was a practice of throwing balls of butter at statues to ask for favor, i.e. buttering them up. ( source ) When we use the phrase today we generally mean that extreme flattery is used to gain information or favor. It's not always necessarily a compliment.
