Get Organized Month

Studies have shown that America can save 55.2 minutes per day, or 14 days per year, if they were more organized. Could you use the time elsewhere in your life? I know I could!

How to Organize Your Time Better in the New Year

Monthly Organizing Checklist for January 2015, this list provides a realistic breakdown of where and how to start so the task of organizing doesn't feel or seem so overwhelming.

Hot Tea Month

Tea, it's what's good for you

31 Ways to Celebrate Hot Tea Month

Start your habit today and continue it all year long, maybe with a monthly tea subscription.

Be Kind to Food Services Month
Can I get an amen?  The people who work in cafeterias on school campus' and other establishments work long hours, are on their feet most of the time, and do what they can to make decent quality food within the standards set forth by the FDA.
This month take the time to thank the food services people you might interact with. Maybe gift them with some foot and/of hand lotion, with a gift card to someplace, etc.  Start a habit this month of appreciation for those who serve you in this way.

Celebration of Life Month
A lot of people will celebrate life on their birthday or they will celebrate other people's lives on their birthday.  But what about the day-to-day?  Do we ever celebrate the day-to-day life? That is after all when life is really lived, in the day-to-day. I love the picture that is part of this post. One of the reasons I love it is because our days, our lives, are dark and light, colored and monochromatic. And we have a choice as to our response about the days, we can dance or drag.  I love this picture because it is a visual of the kind of response I would like to have about my days, no matter what they hold.
I saw this list/graphic (click on it to enlarge it) and it's a good start on celebrating life, on taking it beyond the one day that acknowledges our entrance into this world and acknowledging - celebrating - the day-to-day life that we live.  Are you living? Take this month to build a habit of celebrating the lived out days.

Brainteaser Month
I was probably somewhere around my mid-30's when I felt like my brain wasn't really "firing on all cylinders." In an attempt to give it some exercise and make it work in a different way than it was for daily life I did some looking around and finally found some brainteasers that I enjoyed and gave my brain a workout.  It helped. I still work at them and keep a look out for others I might enjoy. What about you? Ever thought about working out your brain?  This month test out a variety of brainteasers and see which ones might make your brain sweat a little.  :)

Creativity Month
What makes you feel creative? When was the last time you did something creative?  Maybe this month you need to reintroduce yourself to whatever it is that makes you creative. Is creativity important?  It is! It's important for even the most left brained person. And creativity isn't limited to just the stuff we generally think of: crafting, art, music, etc. Creativity is whatever engages your brain in a different way than you employ it daily.  But if you need some help here are 10 Ways to Spark Creative Thinking.

Soup Month
I love soup. Nobody else in my immediate family really does. I still make soups anyway, I just have them forever!
This is the perfect month for soup, January begs for cozy things, for warm and soothing foods. Soup fits the bill.
What's your favorite kind of soup?

Bath Safety Month
Usually when I think about Bath Safety I think of babies. But the link for this awareness reminds me that bath safety is also important to talk about for our elderly people.  Review your bathroom this month and make sure it is safe for any age.

Blood Donor Month
In the winter months, due to illnesses and colder temps that keep people indoors, blood banks run low. So January is a month in which they ask people to donate blood and consider becoming a regular blood donor throughout the year.
Donating blood is EASY. It's so easy and so life-giving.  You can only donate a pint once every 8 weeks so it's not even a huge time commitment.
Do I like needles in my arm? Not particularly. But I can get over that needle sting to give a pint of life-giving blood that has the potential to save up to 3 lives.  I started donating blood in August 2014 and don't plan on stopping anytime soon.
I'm humbly asking you to consider being a blood donor, it's one of the easiest things you and I can do for others.

Braille Literacy Month
What is literacy?
What is braille literacy? How does it differ for blind people versus sighted people?
The Need for Braille
Providing alternative ways for people with print disabilities to read
Consider making a donation this month to ABLE so they can continue to provide materials for those with sight impairments.

Hobby Month
Hobbies and creativity are often lumped together but in my opinion they are two very different things. Some hobbies don't take as much right brain as they do left brain.  For example, assembling ships in a bottle. That requires concentration and precision, more of a left brain activity.  But it is a hobby.

One Day Without Shoes Day Today is to raise global awareness for children’s health and education.  Why shoes? Because shoes help protect from bacteria in the dirt, rusty nails, dirty needles and shoes enable feet to withstand the long distances most children in developing countries need to walk to get to school. Join TOMS One for One There is plenty of criticism out there for TOMS and its short term solutions. Critics don't even buy the "at least they are doing something" statement.  However, you have to start somewhere. And every bit of awareness helps something go from short term to long term.  We all have a part to play.
