Eternal One: Leave this cave, and go stand on the mountainside in My presence.
The Eternal passed by him. The mighty wind separated the mountains and crumbled every stone before the Eternal. This was not a divine wind, for the Eternal was not within this wind. After the wind passed through, an earthquake shook the earth. This was not a divine quake, for the Eternal was not within this earthquake. After the earthquake was over, there was a fire. This was not a divine fire, for the Eternal was not within this fire.
After the fire died out, there was nothing but the sound of a calm breeze. And through this breeze a gentle, quiet voice entered into Elijah’s ears. He covered his face with his cloak and went to the mouth of the cave. Suddenly, Elijah was surprised.
Eternal One: Why are you here, Elijah? What is it that you desire?
The Holy Bible, The Voice Version, The Book of 1 Kings, Chapter 19, Verses 11-13
I'm down to one day from wrapping up this current 365. And I figured it was time I used one of my favorite scriptures for the quote of the day.
For years and years this particular portion of scripture has grabbed my heart because God's voice is really important in my life. And too often I, and most people I know, listen for God's voice in the big and loud things. But God's voice actually shows up more often in the still and small things. We want him to be in the big and loud for various reasons but he presents himself in the still and small for various reasons. God speaks to us in the still and small because what he has to say is important and he doesn't want it, or us, to get lost in the big and loud. And we would. We allow the big and loud to lose us, to distract us. But when the still and small carries the voice of God we are required to slow down, to focus, to minimize distractions, and to really listen. I have learned throughout the years to not allow the big and loud keep me from hearing God in the still and small. It is in the still and small God has the opportunity to reveal some pretty big and loud things for my life...and yours.
