Really? You got *that* out of what I said?

Some people seem bent on misinterpreting everything everyone else says, ever. Pay them no mind and carry on. Audrey Assad

Right?!  Have you ever encountered someone who does this?  ('Fess up if you recognize that you are the one who does this...)  It's so frustrating and it blocks relationship from happening.  If you know that someone you need to converse with has this particular bad habit just take a deep breath, say what you need to, and don't allow their misinterpretation to interfere with what you need to say.  Like today's quote says, pay them no mind and move on.
What is at the root of a person who misinterprets everything?  It could be several things.  It could be insecurity, arrogance,  a pessimistic outlook on life, or maybe it has been modeled for them by a parent/grandparent/mentor.
How do you have a relationship with someone who does this?  I believe authentic relationship cannot happen.  Who wants to spend any amount of time with someone who does this?  Also you cannot have genuine and meaningful conversation with someone who is going to twist and misinterpret everything said.  So what does relationship with someone like this look like?  It looks very shallow, unfortunately.  You can try to be the "iron" that sharpens them but you must hold any expectations of changed habits very loosely, in fact have no expectations at all.  Don't allow them to get under your skin, don't allow their negativity and twisted interpretations to change your mind or even heart about anything.  Relationship can be and will be tricky but if you can take it I say go for it.  Be the person in their life that is a voice, literally and figuratively, of positivity and correct perspective.

The End of Affirmation 365

I've been thinking about it for over a month. Usually, when I'm in it I'm engaged. But this time? I started it indifferent and I've felt indifferent all along. I should have never started. Hindsight is 20/20 they say and they aren't wrong. So when I opened my eyes this morning it was clear. It's time. Time to quit this 365. This is the first 365 that I haven't posted several of the days, the first 365 that I wasn't super excited about, the first 365 that I've quit. I've changed my social media presence and interactions the past year so this is also the first 365 that hardly anyone has been interested in. Is it the topic or my decision to not be as accessible on social media? Or is it some other reason altogether? Well, regardless...I'm throwing in the towel on this one. I can't say if I'll ever do another 365 again. Time will tell and I will know if and when it's time.

Call it a Day

The literal use of this phrase hails from 1838 when the phrase originally was "call it half a day" to mean leaving work early. (source) The modern use of the phrase is to indicate ending something due to false sense of accomplishment.
