True Confessions Day
Got anything you need to get off your conscience?  Today is the day to make your confession.
Here's the most moving confessional booth experience held in recent times (in my humble opinion):

And then here it is portrayed in the movie "Blue Like Jazz"

Buzzards Day
All about buzzards

Brutus Day
It seems if you name your kid Brutus you are just asking for trouble.  The name makes anyone sound like a bully, a betrayer, a backstabber.
Today is to acknowledge that what Brutus did still happens today in modern times.
And the first thing I think of when I hear the name Brutus?  Well it's certainly not the educated guess of Marcus Junius Brutus, but rather this Brutus. *hangs head in shame*

Quilting Day
My Mama is a quilter.  She's made some terrific quilts for all the family, even the fuzzy grandson she has!  But I can't even sew a button back on properly, ha!  I really appreciate the artistry and work that goes into quilts. I especially love the quilts that tell a story and I love the genius behind the quilts of the underground railroad.

If you are ever in Kentucky make sure you spend some time at the National Quilt Museum and then drive into Indiana and visit The Quilters Hall of Fame.

Butter someone up

There are two probable origins for this idiom and I think both are equally plausible. The first one is that when you spread butter on bread you are buttering it up like one would do when trying to flatter someone. The second is in ancient India there was a practice of throwing balls of butter at statues to ask for favor, i.e. buttering them up. ( source ) When we use the phrase today we generally mean that extreme flattery is used to gain information or favor. It's not always necessarily a compliment.

Call it a Day

The literal use of this phrase hails from 1838 when the phrase originally was "call it half a day" to mean leaving work early. (source) The modern use of the phrase is to indicate ending something due to false sense of accomplishment.

More bang for your buck

This phrase was used a lot in 1953 but an earlier citation puts it at 1940 in a Metals and Plastics Publications advertisement. Read about it here . The phrase means you get more for your money.
