My friend Rick asked me if Jim Croce was "before my time". HA! Okay well he might of been but I never would have known the difference since this is the music I grew up on! :) Now I will say that I know Jim from "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" so today is a two-fer! I've made today's song, officially, the song Rick jotted down for me but I've also included Bad Bad Leroy Brown. :) Confession: I liked Bad Bad Leroy Brown when I was younger because I could say "damn" and use the song as an excuse. Tee hee hee. Seriously!
But back to the official song of the day, which I have never heard but really like! The song makes me think of the question I heard recently (or maybe read - either way), "In a relationship, does one love more than the other?" Does one person in the couple love more than the other? Maybe? But maybe it's a two-way street. Maybe one loves more in some ways and the other person loves more in different ways. This song makes me think of that because it makes me think that the woman Jim is singing about wants him to love more in all ways - i.e. become a love martyr on a lover's cross - while she just enjoys it. And in the song he's sayin', "Yeah...no. Can't do that." Nobody, outside of Jesus (oh you knew I had to bring Him into this right?!?), will be able to be a martyr for love. The only reason Jesus could and did is because the love he hung on a cross for was pure and complete, something we can't or won't be able to have in our human relationships.
Btw, I really love Jim's voice - always have. It's got a purity to it that draws me in.
