Today I've got tacos on my mind and my taste buds are asking for fish tacos specifically. My mouth is watering! There's a couple of restaurants in my town that make some good - no, GREAT - fish tacos. I've not tried making them at home but I'm thinking I might give it a shot. So to prep, I googled fish taco recipes and came up with a few that look promising. I thought I would share them here in case anyone else is going to make some fish tacos in the comfort of their own home.
There are two probable origins for this idiom and I think both are equally plausible. The first one is that when you spread butter on bread you are buttering it up like one would do when trying to flatter someone. The second is in ancient India there was a practice of throwing balls of butter at statues to ask for favor, i.e. buttering them up. ( source ) When we use the phrase today we generally mean that extreme flattery is used to gain information or favor. It's not always necessarily a compliment.
