#ThrillingThursday

Fahrenheit at Hersheypark in Hershey, Pennsylvania. This inverted vertical loop “lift” coaster starts off swooping riders up 121 feet above the ground only to plunge them right back down in a gut-wrenching, 97-degree negative drop—the steepest in the U.S. At the 121-foot crest, the upcoming drop is at such a steep incline that the only thing riders in the stadium-seating trains see is, well, nothing. No track at all. Once you survive that first drop, there’s still more to come: a 107-foot inverted loop, an inverted corkscrew roll, cobra element, airborne inverted S-roll, another inverted corkscrew, a little airtime hill (stomach floating), a high-speed banked curve, another hill, and then a high-speed banked curve to end it. All this action takes place in about 85 seconds—less time than it takes to polish off a Hershey bar. ( source )

#WorkItWednesday

For #WorkItWednesday let's talk "sweat equity." And sometimes the sweat equity isn't due to physical exertion but mental exertion. Sometimes it's both. But either way, when we invest sweat equity into what we are working on we will enjoy the rewards and the outcomes of it more.  Looking for some reading material on this topic I came across this Forbes article which peaked my curiousity,  Hard Work Won't Make You Successful -- But Doing This Will , and I was like whaaaaa?  As I read the article I was then like ooooohhhhhhh! Read the article for yourself and you will see how it applies to today's work it. It's the mental exertion I was talking about above.  What's something you need to put some "sweat equity" into? Go and work it!

#TrainingTuesday

What's the importance of training?  How necessary is it really?  (Please tell me you know those are rhetorical questions.)  Here's two scenarios for us to consider about the necessity of training: 1) I am guilty of being in a hurry and forsaking training up the child in the way she should go (as it relates to life skills) in favor of just getting it done. Small view it gets done quickly and correctly (which is my way of course). But large view is I do a disservice to my girls who need to know how to do those things as well - and why we do them. If I never slow down and operate in the large view mindset, my children are going to grow up to be really awful roommates - not knowing how to clean anything, do dishes, do laundry, etc.  2) I had a boss who wanted to delegate some tasks to me but wouldn't take the time to train me. He felt he was too busy. I kept reminding him that if he took the large view and took the time to train me he wouldn't regret th

#MusicalMonday

Today, for #MusicalMonday, try lending your ear to music you've not listened to before. Music from a different culture, different country, different region of the world. Music is a universal language so pick a different one to speak today!

#SundayFunday

On this #SundayFunday find a festival or a sporting event you can go to today. This time of year there can be all sorts of interesting themed festivals or farm team games to attend. In my state this is the time of year we generally have the State Fair going on. We have a baseball farm team in town so those are always fun games to attend. Maybe there is something happening at one of your local parks. One of ours has a water fountain that people can cool off and play in. We are at the end of those lazy, hazy days of summer so go and have some fun today!

#SaturdaySecrets

Reader's Digest started a new column in the past couple of years. It's all about revealing secrets - I love it! The secrets spilled are supposedly by experts in that field (employees, etc). So to honor #SaturdaySecrets here's several secrets spilled - maybe you've been wondering about one of them yourself. 13 Secrets Gyms Probably Won’t Tell You 37 Secrets Nutritionists Won’t Tell You for Free 20 Secrets a Home Security Installer Won’t Tell You 50 Secrets Your Pet Won’t Tell You 32 Secrets of People Who’ve Crossed Major Items Off Their Bucket List 13 Secrets Mayors Won’t Tell You 13+ Secrets Home Inspectors Won’t Tell You 10 Secrets Matchmakers Won’t Tell You for Free 50 Secrets Nurses Wish They Could Tell You 20 secrets your waiter will never tell you 13 Things Your Housecleaner Won't Tell You 41 secrets your doctor would never share with you

Colossus in Thorpe Park located in Chertsey, Surrey, U.K. is a roller coaster built in 2002. It holds the record for number of inversions: 10. It flips riders over and over and over again in maneuvers called the double corkscrew, the cobra roll, and the quadruple heart-line roll. ( source )  Last week I saw the following clip of one of my faves, Ellen, riding a coaster so here's a bonus clip of coaster riding for you today.

#WorkItWednesday

For #WorkItWednesday I thought we could talk about working *it* when other things don't feel right. The *it* is whatever you are involved in that's working right now.  I don't know about you but I have a tendency to focus on the wrong things at times. I tend to neglect the stuff that's working out and tunnel vision focus on the stuff that isn't going okay. While I do think we have to give some attention to what isn't working we shouldn't push off what is. It puts us in a negative mindspace and that's no good for anyone. It might be obvious to point out but I'll risk the obvious,  a positive outlook has powerful benefits . Plus, a lot of times what isn't working out turns out to be pretty unimportant.  In group situations - like workplaces, volunteer groups - often when change is needed the focus is on fixing the things that aren't going right. But studies show that  to effect change, focus on what’s working.   Of everythin

#TrainingTuesday

Today's training is about our brains. And it's not new training, per se, but retraining. A lot of us have brains that need to be exercised in new ways. A retraining is in order, we've fallen into thinking patterns that have turned into actions that need to be changed. Check out this article I found, Retrain Your Brain—And Break Free From The Patterns That Are Holding You Back.   So take time today to consider how you might need to retrain your brain so that you can be successful in whatever you do!

#MusicMonday

Sometimes the margaritas won't do it, sometimes the monday just doesn't matter, sometimes the motivation falls flat, sometimes the magic is missing - those times are when the music enters in and cures all. I can't think of a time music doesn't help when other things can't. It provides words when we have none, courage when we need it, solace when the moment calls for it, and inspiration for our souls. It can serve as the energy drink we need. What's a song that serves you in one of the ways I've mentioned? Would you be willing to share it with us?

#SundayFunday

Why not invite friends, and family, over today - or to a park - and play some games that don't require electricity or wifi? There's a million ideas out there for games to play with toddlers all the way up to adults. Between Google and Pinterest you won't hurt for ideas. Choose a variety of games and activities that include staying dry and getting wet (it is August after all!) plus some games for the shade and those humans - big and little - who like to do some low key things. If you can do s'mores that's always a win, so are frozen treats like ice cream cones and popsicles, and make sure you have lots of water to keep everyone hydrated. If you decide to extend the get together into a meal time then invite everyone to bring their own meat and assign everyone a side dish or dessert to bring to share with everyone. I find that some of the best and most fun get togethers I have ever been to have been spontaneous ones so don't put too much planning into this

#SaturdaySecrets

In my home state we have a lot of amazing and delicious companies providing the populations with fair trade, non-gmo taste bud pleasers. One such company is perfect for today. Why? Because they actually have secrets in their name! Yay for secrets, and in this case dark chocolate ones. YUM! Here's some of the secrets Little Secrets is willing to spill... And they don't keep where you get your hands on these delicious secrets a secret either - find a store near you or buy online - click here to see where !

Expedition GeForce at Holiday Park Haßloch in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. GeForce is not only one of the largest coasters in Europe, it’s always one of the most complete and satisfying because it’s long enough and not gimmicky. But it’s also harrowing, reaching 4.5 G, a height of 203 feet, and speeds exceeding 74 mph. And there are seven coveted moments of weightlessness when your stomach just floats…and floats again. #WorkItWednesday

Today's *it* for #WorkItWednesday is hope. Sometimes we have to work hope. We have to work it for ourselves or for others. Here's some ways to keep hope alive, to work it. How Not To Lose Hope In Tough Times How To Nurture Hope When Life Starts Getting Really Tough

#TrainingTuesday

The whole purpose of training is the space and time to learn and make mistakes. Mistakes are important because they help us learn. We have to be allowed to make mistakes and we have to allow others to make them.  Training isn't just for things like jobs or sports. Life takes training. And we have to allow for mistakes to be made.  Here's a couple of articles that talk about the importance of mistakes being made in training: The Best Way to Train Employees Is to Let Them Make Mistakes 9 Crucial Life Skills to Teach Your Child 12 Basic Life Skills Every Kid Should Know by High School

#MusicalMonday

My brothers and I did musicals while growing up. Actually I think I did just one and they went on to do a few more than that. In fact, one brother studied musical theater in college and has even made part of his career by being on the stage singing and dancing. So musicals are nothing new to my family and I. We can't get enough of them. I'm acknowledging #MusicalMonday today by listening to some of my favorite show soundtracks, shows like Wicked, Hamilton, The Phantom of the Opera, Rent - and my list could go on and on. Do you have any favorite musicals?

#SundayFunday

For #SundayFunday pick a museum, aquarium, or zoo to go to. Try to pick a museum that has interactive exhibits like a Children's Museum or The Museum of Science and Natural History. Maybe your local art museum even has some interactive opportunities. To make it even more engaging you could create a scavenger hunt for everyone to participate in at the chosen musuem or zoo. Most museums have a section on their websites for teachers and you can find different resources there to help make your visit interactive. So go out there and have some fun!

#SaturdaySecrets

Do you have a secret? Something that you really want, maybe even need, to share but don't feel safe doing so with anyone in your life? Well, there's a way to share it - get it off your chest so to speak - and remain anonymous. Isn't that great news? In fact, you aren't limited to just one secret to unburden - you can unburden yourself as much as you need to. Just write your secret on a postcard - yes, snail mail is the way this is happening - and send it to: PostSecret/13345 Copper Ridge Road/Germantown, MD/20874 Wondering what happens to the secrets you share? Go here, postsecret.com  PostSecret is an ongoing community art project where people mail in their secrets anonymously on one side of a postcard. Your secrets, posted, every Sunday. But anonymous! Why publish them? I think reading other people's secrets could provide perspective toward your own.  Here are some examples of secrets that other people have - it's nice to know you aren't alone isn
