Icing on the cake


The term is literal in its meaning and origin. It comes from the early 1900s when a sweet, creamy coating (icing) was used to cover a cake. The cake itself was sweet enough so when the coating was added it was...icing on the cake. 

Now when the term is used it means anything extra to something already great is bonus.
