Hula in the Coola Day
Tired of the long, cold winter you have been experiencing?  Then why not try to chase away the winter cold by donning a grass skirt, a lei, some coconut knockers and doing the hula outside?  Crazy right?  I'm not sure it actually works. Tomorrow is Groundhog Day, maybe that will work?

Baked Alaska Day
The Invention of Baked Alaska
Baked Alaska Recipe
Ever had a Baked Alaska? I never had.
Ben & Jerry's is way easier to "make"! *wink*

Decorating with Candy Day
I'm not sure what you decorate with candy today, unless it is a February Gingerbread House? Or you throw a special party that is candy themed? Maybe it's just an excuse to indulge in your favorite candy!

Dump your Significant Jerk Day
How to Identify a Jerk
How to Dump Someone...nicely.  They might be a jerk but don't sink to their level!
How To Break Up With Someone Without Drama, Pain and Remorse
Note: Most articles, if not all, that I looked at consistently used men as the jerk. Um. I'm a girl so I can point this out, girls can be and are jerks also.  I don't like the stereotype that men are jerks and women aren't. Gender equality people, gender equality.
Another word I like to use for jerk is fool. Fool describes a jerk so much better.
I highly recommend this book, it helps to fool proof our lives.
Here's a brief snippet from the author of the book I just recommended.

Working Naked Day
Okay, this is just NO. Nope. Shouldn't ever happen. Ain't nobody needs to see this or that!

Car Insurance Day
Today if you don't have car insurance but you have a car and drive it then you should do something about that.
Wondering if you've been paying more than you should for insurance?  Do some price checking and see if you can get same or better coverage for cheaper.  Any questions about your coverage?  Take the time today to ask your questions and get some answers.

National Freedom Day
The roots of this special day come directly from the end of slavery and the signing of the 13th amendment outlawing slavery.
This observance holiday differs from Independence Day in that this day is specifically to celebrate/observe the outlawing of slavery.  Independence Day is to observe/celebrate our nation's freedom from Britain.
The 13th Amendment Didn't Abolish Slavery?

Serpent Day
Serpents are snakes, have symbolism, can be found in the Bible, and is an instrument!  There are also bands named Serpent, books with the word in its title, video games, constellations, roller coasters, computer software, and even a nickname for a serial killer.

The Feast of Firstfruits & Easter Go for Broke Day If it scares you this is the day to go for it no matter what. One Day Without Shoes Day Today is to raise global awareness for children’s health and education.  Why shoes? Because shoes help protect from bacteria in the dirt, rusty nails, dirty needles and shoes enable feet to withstand the long distances most children in developing countries need to walk to get to school. Join TOMS One for One There is plenty of criticism out there for TOMS and its short term solutions. Critics don't even buy the "at least they are doing something" statement.  However, you have to start somewhere. And every bit of awareness helps something go from short term to long term.  We all have a part to play. Read a Road Map Day One of the many reasons I would stink at The Amazing Race is because I never did learn how to read a road map well.  I remember doing worksheets and class lessons on maps and I was able to skate by ...

Butter someone up

There are two probable origins for this idiom and I think both are equally plausible. The first one is that when you spread butter on bread you are buttering it up like one would do when trying to flatter someone. The second is in ancient India there was a practice of throwing balls of butter at statues to ask for favor, i.e. buttering them up. ( source ) When we use the phrase today we generally mean that extreme flattery is used to gain information or favor. It's not always necessarily a compliment.

A dime a dozen

"It's said that in the year 1796, the first U.S. dimes were produced for circulation. Hence, it would make sense for this phrase to originate sometime after." Read more here .  Today the phrase carries the meaning that something is cheap or without value if it can be lumped in with other similar or exactly-like things. It's more of an insult than anything.
