For Saturday, February 26: I'm Yours

Jason Mraz looks like someone else and it's been bugging me.  Who does he look like?  (Besides himself of course - ha!)  No really he looks so much like someone else that I keep watching his stuff over and over trying to figure it out. Alas, I'm drawing a blank.  So I'll move on...
LOVE his voice, his music, his style!  I'm a bit...behind, and didn't realize he had been around for as long as he has.  So I've got some major catch up to do! :)  My husband is groaning because this particular song "I' Yours" he hears no less than 100 times a day on the radio station they play at his work!  :) I promise him that I will mix it up and play all of Mraz's stuff not just this song!
OH!! I got it!! He looks like this character on one of my fave shows White Collar.  WHEW. I am SO glad I figured that out! :)  I'm good now.  Now I can just enjoy his music, which I plan on doing!
I hope you enjoy as well.

Butter someone up

There are two probable origins for this idiom and I think both are equally plausible. The first one is that when you spread butter on bread you are buttering it up like one would do when trying to flatter someone. The second is in ancient India there was a practice of throwing balls of butter at statues to ask for favor, i.e. buttering them up. ( source ) When we use the phrase today we generally mean that extreme flattery is used to gain information or favor. It's not always necessarily a compliment.

More bang for your buck

This phrase was used a lot in 1953 but an earlier citation puts it at 1940 in a Metals and Plastics Publications advertisement. Read about it here . The phrase means you get more for your money.

Call it a Day

The literal use of this phrase hails from 1838 when the phrase originally was "call it half a day" to mean leaving work early. (source) The modern use of the phrase is to indicate ending something due to false sense of accomplishment.
