My Dad's birthday cake of choice is ALWAYS a lemon cake with an icing that is a longtime family recipe. My sweet for today is that icing. Just the mere thought of it makes my mouth watering. Anything it is on is honestly just the vehicle for the icing. I love it best on lemon cake since that's how I grew up eating it but I have had it on other things and it is always a taste bud pleaser. Saunders Icing 5 tablespoons flour 1 cup milk ½ cup shortening 1 stick butter 1 cup sugar Dash of salt 1 teaspoon vanilla Cook flour and milk together until it starts to thicken.  Cool. Beat together the remaining ingredients until the sugar is dissolved.  Gradually add the thickened flour-milk mixture and beat until creamy.  Store in refrigerator.  Frosts a 2 layer cake.

A long, long, LONG time ago my parents participated in a scavenger hunt of sorts around their city. It was called Road Rally and if memory serves me correct my Dad was part of putting it all together - determining the locations of clues etc. I think this might be where I get my love of scavenger hunts. Anyway, the church group they did it with is still doing it these days - in fact one of my lifelong friends and her husband won first place with their team in the past couple of years! Her parents had done it with my parents. If I still lived in Michigan I have a feeling I would be doing it as well. Anyway.  Fast forward a *few* years to when I was co-leading a group of ladies. The other co-leader and I planned a ladies night out and decided to do it "Amazing Race" style - similar I bet to my parents Road Rallies. Legend of the Small "A" in the Word Broadmoor: You will only see this small "A" in official Broadmoor literature and on official signs large and small at the resort. Legend has it founder Spencer Penrose wanted to buy Colorado Springs' first opulent hotel, The Antlers. One night after a few drinks he rode into the lobby of The Antlers on horseback and made his request to purchase the hotel. He was turned down. In a huff, Penrose told them he would build a hotel and that it would dwarf The Antlers. The small "A" is now symbolic for that other little hotel in the city.

A lot of the real delicious drinks in my life have been introduced to me by good friends who care about me and my taste buds. *wink* My pick for today's #ThirstyThursday is thanks to my kindred (read/see Anne of Green Gables for the meaning of that). Crabbie's Alcoholic Ginger Beer is UH-MAZING.  Squeeze a lime into it and it is perfection. Dear me it's so freaking good. My husband has a love for ginger so when I poured him a Crabbie he was over the moon. It is a regular beverage in our fridge. In fact, I'm going to make sure I pop one open today. Cheers!
