The name comes from decem, "ten", which is Latin. It seems odd that the name of the twelfth month of the year, "December", is derived from the Latin word for "ten", until you realize that the earliest Roman calendar had just ten months. (source)

On December 7 we celebrate the day by writing letters. This month is well known for "catching up" with friends and updating friends on what is going on in your life.
