#TastyTuesday

For #TastyTuesday let's talk about eating around the world! Are you adventurous when it comes to your cuisines? I am...to a certain extent (no organs, no insects, no body parts...). So today let's talk tasty ethnic foods. These days, with the variety of restaurants and the variety on the grocery store shelves you can try ethnic foods and expand the worldview of your taste buds!  If you like to cook and like to try out new recipes, try out one of the ones on the link below. Or check out the many ideas on Pinterest.   Click here If you don't like to cook or don't feel brave enough to try cooking an international dish hunt down a restaurant in your local area to visit and try.

#MeatlessMonday

Today go meatless for your meals - if not for you then for the environment. Did you know that just skipping one day of meat improves our environment in ways that are incomprehensible? So if every person would just skip one day of meat who knows what kind of improvements would happen for our environment. No really, I'm being totally serious. I mean, we can do one day - just a 24 hour period - of no meat right? In the end it's not a matter of can, it's a matter of will we? Google is a great resource for our lives these days - we can just Google "meatless meal recipes" so try that for some tasty dishes or check out my Pinterest board for some that have caught my eye.

#SomewhereSunday

Our destination for #SomewhereSunday is Croatia. I never thought much about Croatia until I met someone whose spouse is a native of the beautiful country. Once I saw a few pictures I was like WOW! I look to Rick Steve's for a tour of the country in just 25 minutes. Sometimes Rick is a bit cheesy but he really does do a great tour overall. #SaturdaySwag

Today's #SaturdaySwag is s till w ondering a nd g uessing.  What is something you are still wondering and guessing about? Maybe it's something your parents told you when you were younger and you still believe it but every time you mention it someone looks at you strange and you wonder if maybe something isn't right. Like a pet went to live on a farm or if you swallow your gum it will stay in your stomach for 7 years.  So today let's see if we can get down to the truth of some of those things that we think might be true and aren't sure so we have also told the same possible lies to children in our lives. *wink* Are you still wondering and guessing any of these? 17 lies your parents told you as a kid (that you still kinda believe) 21 Lies Parents Tell Their Kids: Ranked from “NBD” to “gonna need therapy.”

#FeedTheHungryFriday

A few years ago I watched the documentary Dive   and didn't know what to do. The amount of waste happening in America was sickening to me - mostly because I recognized I was contributing to that waste. I determined to try and reduce the waste coming from my home. But my waste isn't the biggest problem. It's the waste that grocery stores and restaurants (and other institutions that make and serve food, like Universities) have at the end of each day. The docu Dive highlighted the waste of grocery stores but not restaurants. Restaurants - specifically fast food ones - tally up a crazy amount of waste each day. Items like hamburgers can only sit for so long before they are labeled unfit for consumption. Then they are discarded of and it's illegal for people to go into the dumpsters to retrieve them. It's so frustrating. It's another sign of the broken systems we have in America. ANYWAY. Food Rescue programs are starting to pop up. Many retailers are scare

#ThreeThingsThursday

The rule of three: The rule suggests that when things come in threes, they are inherently funnier, more satisfying, or more effective than other numbers of things. In 1973 Schoolhouse Rock debuted with the number 3. Why 3? Because it's a magic number! A funny list of three things  A famous trio  A threesome quote

#WingItWednesday

“Five birds are sitting on a telephone wire. If two decide to fly south, how many are left? Many would say three, but there’s five left. Deciding to fly south is not the same as actually doing it. Good intentions are not enough. Don’t sit on that wire, spread your wings and fly.”  Principal Dr. Kathleen Skelding-Dills, Liberty High School, Lynchburg, VA If you've been feeling grounded take some time today to consider winging it. Spread your wings and take a leap or at least get that running start winging it requires. Consider these six steps to get your wings flapping: 1. Admit Your Desire to Fly 2. Confess Your Fears and Excuses for Remaining Grounded 3. Be Willing to Move Beyond Your Comfort Zone 4. Consider the Alternative 5. Ask Yourself: What’s the Worst Thing That Could Happen to Me? 6. Identify What Flying Means to You (source) "Whatever pain we might experience at others’ negative reactions to our spreading our wings, is nothing compared to the pain w

#TastyTuesday

Comfort food! On this #TastyTuesday let's dish about comfort foods. I think most people have sweet ones and savory ones. I think it would be fun to have a get together where everyone brings their favorite comfort food to share. It would be such a random assortment of foods but it would be fun to enjoy them together! If it helps you to feel better about indulging in comfort foods here are some single-serving ideas... Click here

#MeatlessMonday

There are no shortage of delicious recipes for #MeatlessMonday. These days we aren't limited in the options. Check out some of these recipes, like rosemary balsamic steaks! Steaks? What? Going meatless takes us out of our comfort zones if we are stuck in the traditional ways of thinking about food, as in steaks are always beef (or swordfish). But let's be adventurous, who knows what kinds of amazing flavors we are missing out on!

#SomewhereSunday

My #SomewhereSunday destination today is Scotland.                                                                I have always wanted to go to Scotland and a favorite book (and now TV) series is based there so it intrigues me even more. It's always helpful to know the most common phrases and words when traveling to a new place. The Scots language is similar to English but not. Check this out, you'll see what I mean. *grin* Ardnamurchan Peninsula Edinburgh A tour, led by Rick Steves, through Scotland's Islands and Highlands What's the weather like in Scotland? Standing Stones of Callanish The Wallace Monument Most of the time when the word food in mentioned in the same sentence as Scotland the first thing people think of is Haggis. It has quite a reputation around the world with very mixed reviews I'd say. Well, there's more to Scotland than Haggis as this video shows - it takes us on a food tour of Sc
