Radio Commercials Day Who knew that I would have any sort of knowledge about this?! It happens to be a huge part of my job. So here's some insider information. *wink* Behind the scenes commercials are called spots and the businesses and organizations that pay for them are called underwriters.  Commercials are one way a station pays for overhead on their programming. Most people, if not all, are annoyed by radio commercials - myself included even though it's part of my job - but they are valuable to both the underwriters and the stations.  So next time you hear a radio commercial remember it is one way your favorite radio station stays on the air! Kiss and Make Up Day Resolve your disagreements, with your spouse/significant other, with a kiss.  If you don't want to even get into a heated argument and would prefer to just kiss try this tip that I heard at a bridal shower once: argue naked. Ha! Bet the argument gets settled REAL quick. *wink* I've also heard that when arguing hold hands. Something about having physical touch while trying to argue diffuses the heated emotions. But if you do argue and have resolved it then seal it with a kiss...or two or three!  :) Whiskey Sour Day Click on the link for this and you'll get some recipes. The Classic Recipe

1944 Vesuvius Eruption Vesuvius Day You may not recognize this volcano but you may recognize the destruction it has caused.  Vesuvius is the famous volcano that buried Pompeii and created a fascinating account of history in 79 A.D. The town and residents of Pompeii were buried in ashfall that came from a very sudden explosion within Vesuvius. Lanny with Vesuvius in the background In the summer of 2012 my Dad took his family, all 10 of us at the time, to Italy.  We were able to visit Pompeii and see Vesuvius in the distance. My brothers and sister-in-love, along with my nephew, even hiked part of it before coming into Pompeii. Pompeii's obliteration is a fascination that continues throughout time.  A whole entire town and most of its residents buried in mere minutes.  And what the ash preserved is rather incredible. It has created quite a curiosity as excavations continue.  There was a movie made last year centered on Pompeii. Then there's the song by Bastille . Wha

Be An Angel Day This holiday reminds me of the following verse - Hebrews 13:2, "Do not forget or neglect or refuse to extend hospitality to strangers [in the brotherhood—being friendly, cordial, and gracious, sharing the comforts of your home and doing your part generously], for through it some have entertained angels without knowing it."
