Hallelujah

My friend Marcia loves the version of Hallelujah done by Jason Castro so I'm putting it on today for her! :) Jason Castro was an AI contestant and didn't win his season but has gone on to do music anyway.  Btw, has anyone else noticed that with the exception of Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood the majority of the winners have fizzled out but yet others who got voted off are doing well?  Interesting.  Anywho.
Can I just say, though, that I really wish he'd get rid of the dreads?  I find dreads to be DISGUSTING on so many levels.  They seriously gross me out.  There's this guy at one of "my" Panera's in town who has dreads and works with the food.  EW.  But I digress...
There's no doubt about it, Jason Castro has a great voice.  He's talented and he does do a beautiful rendition of today's song.  What I don't get, really, is today's song.  I've heard it before but never paid much attention to all the lyrics.  Written by Leonard Cohen and first recorded by him it didn't gain popularity until a different artist covered it.  Since then it has been covered by more than 200 artists!  There are obvious biblical references in the song - David and Bathsheba, Samson and Delilah - but the song doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.  Wiki didn't help me figure it out either.  Was Mr. Cohen by ANY chance on some kind of drug when he wrote the song?  :)  The only thing that I can maybe figure out about the song is the last verse in which he says, basically, that even though nothing went right he'll still sing Hallelujah to the Lord anyway.  I can get behind that.  :)
Regardless, here's a fun fact about todays' song - Cohen originally wrote MORE than 80 verses to this song before landing on the 4 (? is it 5?) that have been recorded.  Wow.
Hey it's Monday!  Sing Hallelujah and get the day started off right! :)

The Feast of Firstfruits & Easter Go for Broke Day If it scares you this is the day to go for it no matter what. One Day Without Shoes Day Today is to raise global awareness for children’s health and education.  Why shoes? Because shoes help protect from bacteria in the dirt, rusty nails, dirty needles and shoes enable feet to withstand the long distances most children in developing countries need to walk to get to school. Join TOMS One for One There is plenty of criticism out there for TOMS and its short term solutions. Critics don't even buy the "at least they are doing something" statement.  However, you have to start somewhere. And every bit of awareness helps something go from short term to long term.  We all have a part to play. Read a Road Map Day One of the many reasons I would stink at The Amazing Race is because I never did learn how to read a road map well.  I remember doing worksheets and class lessons on maps and I was able to skate by to pa
