#ThrivingThursday

thrive
THrīv/
verb
grow or develop well or vigorously.
prosper; flourish.

A few years ago one of my favorite bands, Casting Crowns, came out with a song titled "Thrive." There is a line in the song that has caught fire, so to speak. "It's time for us to more than just survive,
we were made to thrive"

The word thrive is what really sticks with me. It's such an intentional word - one that is weighted with so much meaning, so much more than what the word "alive" conjures up. The word alive indicates breaths being taken, brainwaves active, blood flowing. But the word thrive. The word brings to light what life is really supposed to be - developing, prospering, flourishing.

I'll be honest, I don't feel like I'm thriving. I feel, most days, like I'm just getting by - just surviving. And a lot of that is my own fault, I get too much into my head. Here's a really helpful article I found about getting out of my own head, if you find yourself struggling with the same problem then maybe you will find some helpful tips in it as well. (Here's another article about getting out of your own head and overthinking - totally different ideas.)

Surviving is passive, there's nothing active about it. But thriving - that's being proactive about life and as long as we are fighting for it then we'll find it.

On #ThrivingThursday I'm challenging myself, and you as well, to remember...

One Day Without Shoes Day Today is to raise global awareness for children’s health and education.  Why shoes? Because shoes help protect from bacteria in the dirt, rusty nails, dirty needles and shoes enable feet to withstand the long distances most children in developing countries need to walk to get to school. Join TOMS One for One There is plenty of criticism out there for TOMS and its short term solutions. Critics don't even buy the "at least they are doing something" statement.  However, you have to start somewhere. And every bit of awareness helps something go from short term to long term.  We all have a part to play. Read a Road Map Day One of the many reasons I would stink at The Amazing Race is because I never did learn how to read a road map well.  I remember doing worksheets and class lessons on maps and I was able to skate by to pa
