#FamilyFriday

Without spending time together, in all kinds of circumstances, there isn't much of a family. Hanging out together is important to creating and keeping a family together. Some of the benefits are: builds self-esteem in children, strengthens family bonds, develops positive behaviors, creates happy memories, helps parents and children reconnect (source), greater resilience and academic achievements, wellbeing for the whole family, happier, more grounded, teens, independent relationships with both parents (source)

Spending time together doesn't have to be elaborate or cost money. It can be, and in fact should be, as easy and simple as eating meals together, going on walks, even running errands together. Certainly doing the things that are a little more elaborate and cost money are fine as well but it is in all the moments so don't neglect the moments that seem to be ordinary or mundane.

Also, don't work too hard or worry too much about the moments being "meaningful." Some of the most meaningful family moments happen without any forethought or planning. They just happen. I see a lot of ideas out there about "creating meaningful" moments and I think that puts pressure on families that doesn't need to exist. The most meaningful moments aren't created, they just are. And meaningful can mean so many different things to each person/family.

So in honor of #FamilyFriday go out and have some fun with your family!

Join TOMS One for One There is plenty of criticism out there for TOMS and its short term solutions. Critics don't even buy the "at least they are doing something" statement.  However, you have to start somewhere. And every bit of awareness helps something go from short term to long term.  We all have a part to play. Read a Road Map Day One of the many reasons I would stink at The Amazing Race is because I never did learn how to read a road map well.  I remember doing worksheets and class lessons on maps and I was able to skate by to pa
